My first Splurge VS Save instalment went down pretty well: Splurge VS Save Part 1 Make-up & Skincare. It took a while to get it together and same goes for part 2. After doing my research and picking out relevant products, it's finally live! Better late than never I say! This post is all about haircare and nails, which products to save your pennies on, and the products you should loosen the purse strings for.
Shampoo - Save - Over the years a couple of different hairdressers have told me to save on shampoo and splurge on a conditioner. I also read this in a few magazines too and it does make sense. Shampoo is purely used to clean the hair whereas conditioners are the products that provide the magic. I find that any supermarket or high-street shampoo does the trick. I like TRESémme's Cleanse & Replenish for weekly use to remove product build-up and then which ever shampoo takes my fancy at the time in a store. I usually lean towards the products on offer and then choose by scent.
Conditioners - Slurge - As mentioned above, I feel a splurge on conditioners is acceptable. They are the products that transform your locks and keep them soft for days and I feel high-end brands always supply the goods. Kérastase products are amazing, the Resistance range is great for dry damaged hair and doesn't weigh it down.
Treatments - Splurge - Treatments are on the same level as conditioners, and being a weekly treat for your hair, it only makes sense that you choose ones that work wonders for your locks. Although TRESémme Keratin Smooth Treatment mask does amazing things for my hair, I can't help but say the Macadamia Deep Repair Masque wins a well-deserved first place. It makes my hair super soft, shiny and really healthy looking without weighing it down which is always tricky to find in treatments.
Serums & Oils - Splurge - Although the high-street brands do their own versions now, my hair sometimes feels a little greasy afterwards and also a little weighed down. I think it's a little obvious which two products I will be suggesting...Moroccan oil Treatment Oil is obviously the one that springs to most peoples mind, it helps smooth down fly-aways, makes dry ends feel more smooth and nourished and it also has heat protection thrown in which makes it pretty darn amazing. Another conditioning product that pretty much does the same thing as Moroccan Oil is the Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment, both work really well without making the hair greasy, flat or weighed down.
Heat Protectants - Save - Every high-street brand has their own heat protecting spray now and the ones I have used have all done wonders for my hair making it feel smoother and healthier. L'oreal Elnett Satin Styling Heat Spray comes in three different versions, for volume, curls or straight hair. I've been using the one for volume and it does just as it says, creates lovely voluminous hair all whilst protecting it from the heat of a hair dryer and curling iron, not a frizzy hair in sight. I've heard great things about the TRESémme Heat Defence Styling Spray too, next on the list to try.
Stylers - Save - I think it's obvious which product dupe I will be bringing up in this section. All brands have a variety of different products that boast to do certain things to your hair and for me I find texturizing sprays the trickiest to get right. Everyone and their cat has heard about the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, apparently it's an amazing Holy Grail product, I say ridiculously expensive...but still want to see what the fuss is about! Save your pennies and buy the drug-store "dupe" version in the form of Charles Worthington Texturizing Spray. I use this stuff nearly everyday and it is a-mazing!
